I thought I was getting better this past Monday, but then Monday evening I got slammed again. I got really droopy and coughed more and more. It was a deep barking cough that hurt and gave me a headache. Tuesday morning was right about a week since I started with a scratchy throat and blossomed to drainage and coughing. I knew it must be something more than just sinus.
I called my doctor’s office first thing Tuesday morning and when they heard me cough over the phone, they were very adamant about me coming in and seeing one of the nurse practitioners. They were even able to get me in within an hour. I didn’t really feel like driving thirty minutes to Topeka, but I was ready for something to give. The nurse practitioner said that I had upper respiratory virus. I was put on a z-pack and some prescription cough medicine. I have never had cough syrup that I really truly liked the flavor of. Not until this stuff. It tastes a little like honey, and it is really good! Almost too good. I want to drink the whole bottle! Not a good idea though. It does make me a little sleepy. I do want to wake now and then. 😀
It has helped some, but I am still coughing. It seems a little looser than it was, but I still cough and that is annoying. I still have two days left of the z-pack. If the cough is still persisting after that, I will call again. I can’t help but wonder if I don’t have Bronchitis. My chest doesn’t hurt when I cough like it did. So I don’t know.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. I hope to feel up to trying to get more interesting posts on. Saturday we are supposed to get some freezing rain, sleet and snow. It will be a good day to stay in and blog. Or craft. Or both. You never know.
Stay Safe and God Bless!
❤
I hope you are getting lots of good rest! That seems to be the ticket to getting well… lots of rest and drinking plenty of fluids. It looks like more cold and crappy weather – maybe snow, is headed here to Oklahoma so I imagine you’ll be getting more bitter cold weather too. I hope you are feeling much improved by the weekend! 🙂

I am not doing much else than rest. I wear out pretty fast with this stuff. I am taking lots of naps. Stay warm, dry and safe! 🙂

I hope you feel better soon, not to scare you, but if your cough doesn’t clear up in the next few days perhaps you could ask for a chest xray to see what’s going on? I say this because my wife had a deep cough and it was misdiagnosed first as bronchitis then as a virus in her lungs, she was given antibiotics, they helped quite a bit and the cough seemed to settle down, about a month later she started coughing again, this time she coughed up some blood, an xray was ordered and was discovered she had stage 4 (end stage) lung cancer (she never smoked) it was a rare form of lung cancer , that was just 1 year ago, she lost her battle with cancer last month, I don’t want to scare you, but I just want you to be aware that it may just be more than a simple virus.

Thank you for the heads up. Cancer is never very far from my mind. I have a lot of cancer on both sides of my family. My coughs usually don’t last this long. When I was younger anyway. I will be 59 soon, and I know age doesn’t help. I am going to call again after my last two days of the z-pack is done. I feel I have to give them a chance. I did smoke when I was younger and drank too. Thank God I have given both up for many years now. But, I did grow up around a lot of second hand smoke. I will keep what you said in mind. I am so sorry you did not have longer with your wife. It is always hard even when you know it is coming after such short notice. Thoughts and prayers for you and Hammy. 🙂

I hope so. I am getting really tired of this. I am tired of hot tea. Maybe I should try my grandfather’s remedy. Tablespoon of honey, chase with a whiskey and go to bed and sweat it out. Not I hate to sweat! 🙂

Actually, I forgot to ask, years ago I had “walking pneumonia” which was miss diagnosed as a chest cold. They gave me an inhaler and boy what a difference it made. I was better in 3 days.

I am going to call again in a few days if I am still coughing. I do get worried about having something worse. I really notice it when I go out in the cold. I come in and cough and cough. Makes me not want to go out at all. Can’t hardly do that on the farm.

That sounds very familiar. If it’s not better, tell them about the cold and coughing more. That sounds more like the lungs being affected. 😦

I expected them to tell me I had Bronchitis, not just upper respiratory. I was surprised that they didn’t say that. I told them that I was coughing a lot. They heard me coughing there and on the phone. And I can hear a wheezing or rattling sometimes when I am sitting quiet and at night when I go to bed.

Hope you feel better as you finish the z-Pak. It’s been a year of viral and bacterial infections here in North Texas. I don’t know if it is the fact that the flu vaccine missed the mark this year or if it was our mild winter and pollen and mold spores have been higher than normal.
Please take care, and keep us posted.

Cheryl, hope you start feeling better soon! I know when I took my z-pack, I didn’t really start feeling better until the last pill — and even really more like a few days after I’d taken it. I don’t know what “bug” has us all in its grip, but it sure is a pesky fellow! Take care, relax, drink plenty of fluids — and start feeling better soon! 🙂

I took the next to the last pill of the z-pack this morning and I hardly coughed at all. I did some, but nothing like I had been doing for the last week and a half. I took a big swig of the cough medicine before going to bed last night and I think that was the first time I slept without coughing all night. One more pill to take. It just seemed the z-packs worked faster about ten or more years ago. 🙂

I do feel a bit better today. I haven’t coughed hardly at all today. Still a little but not near as much. I took a good swig of the cough medicine before going to bed last night and slept cough free for the first time in about a week and a half. One more pill of the z-pack left for tomorrow. I certainly hope that will finish off whatever is bothering me. 🙂

I am trying not to say I am feeling better. Because every time I do, I feel bad again. But, here goes; I am feeling better. So far today. My z-pack is done and I haven’t coughed yet this morning. We will see how long that lasts. 🙂

Just don’t give up on the tea and eating right for a few more days! And take your vitamins. Why do we always give advice? As if being sick is evidence that someone needs health advice. I’m sure you don’t, yet I can’t walk away from giving it. Weird and annoying, but there it is. LOL

I am thankful for the advice. Don’t stop giving advice. I am good at giving advice but don’t always follow it. When it comes from someone else, I think we are all prone to follow it. Have a wonderful Sunday! 🙂
