I guess that Patches thought Lily must be getting too much attention. Sometime Friday morning he decided to cut himself somehow and it looked kind of bad. He wasn’t bleeding too much, but Hubby and I both thought he might need to be stitched. The vet is always very busy on Fridays and Saturdays. I called and couldn’t get him in on Friday at all, but they could get him in at 9:45am on Saturday. I tried to clean it up a little with some Peroxide and I got a little too much. I felt really bad when Patches started howling in pain as it burned. I knew it would hurt a little. I really didn’t mean to get so much on the wound. I patted it with a paper towel and blew on it like I would for a child. It must have worked because he quieted immediately and licked my face. I felt better than. I also put some anti biotic cream on to help keep it clean and gave him a buffered aspirin. The vet has told me that we could give buffered aspirin if needed for things. I thought it might help with any fever he might get. I am a worry wart when it comes to sick kids and animals.
We aren’t sure what he caught it on. He is always running around the corner fence post and cutting it pretty close to go harass, or play with the neighbor dog. There is barbed wire wrapped around the post and we suspect that may have been what he hit. He was a little more cautious going around that post today. He gave it a fairly wide berth. So I am almost sure that may have been it.
I got him to the vet Saturday morning and they had to sedate him and refresh the wound and stitch it. He was there about two hours and was ready to go home when he was finally awake enough. He practically dragged me out the door. 🙂
Another culprit could possibly be the tip of the burned antler one of the dogs brought up from the burned CRP ground on Friday morning. After all it was Friday the 13. Hum. Maybe that’s why we had such a hard time with Lily that afternoon. 🙂
Patches is doing fine though and he is on pills of course. An antibiotic just in case. I really hate trying to give pills to animals. So far cheese has worked well with Patches. And Lily doesn’t need any more Bute right now. Hopefully not for a long time.
Stay Safe and God Bless!
